30 Fantastic Things I Bought On Amazon That Help Me Totally Chill Out

As a writer who typically works from my apartment in Los Angeles, it's sometimes hard to turn off “work mode" and settle into post-job relaxation time. For me, spending time on self-care is crucial to decompressing, and therefore my overall mental well-being. Now more than ever, though, it's not always possible for me to book a last minute massage or hit my favorite hot yoga class. Fortunately, Amazon has lots of affordable products capable of taking me to that zen place. I should know: I've bought a lot of them!

Whether it's an acupressure mat that allegedly combats stress or an ice roller for chilling out my face and mind, I've learned that quick pick-me-ups don't have to be super costly. Some of these Amazon products for relaxing are even less than I would pay for a great matcha latte at my favorite Instagrammable Silverlake shop. Here are 30 of my favorite hidden self-care gems on Amazon, and why I think they're fantastic.

An Ice Roller That Makes Puffiness A Thing Of The Past

via: Amazon

This cute ice roller — which comes in multiple colors — couldn’t be easier in providing some quick self care. Just pop it in the freezer, wait a few hours, and then get to rolling it all around your pretty face. It reportedly promotes lymphatic drainage and therefore reduces puffiness, but my favorite thing about it is how nice it feels after a long hot shower. There’s a reason my boyfriend always asks to borrow this one.

A Foam Roller So You Can Workout Minus All The Muscle Pain

via: Amazon

I just bought a NordicTrack spin bike, and I am loving it. What I love less is the muscle tightness that comes from "riding all over the world" via my TV. Fortunately, Amazon has affordable foam rollers that allow me to give myself a deep, satisfying massage to prevent unnecessary soreness.

A Weighted Sleep Mask That Somehow Makes Sleep More Relaxing

via: Amazon

I don’t sleep without something covering my eyes — my bedroom faces our parking lot, and there’s nothing worse than someone’s headlights rousing you at 3am. This mask is unique in that its weight helps promote relaxation, much like its sister item, a weighted blanket, would. It’s also great for quick naps on the couch and even meditation.

An Aromatherapy Set That Just Makes Scents (Get It?!?)

via: Amazon

This set of eight essential oils is great for when you need a scent pick-me-up. A few drops of lavender on your pillowcase can bring on a restful night of sleep, while eucalyptus in your shower can make you feel like you’re living your best spa life. My favorite? A few drops of peppermint in the sink as I’m washing my face: It provides a bit of a morning zing, sans any caffeine.

Matcha Bar Green Tea Powder That Brings My Favorite Cafe To My Kitchen

via: Amazon

I’m not a coffee girl, but I love matcha lattes — which are the far prettier drink, anyway! This tin of ceremonial grade matcha powder, from Los Angeles favorite cafe MatchaBar, allows me to make (and Instagram) this green tea beverage at home. With the same amount of caffeine as one espresso shot, all you have to do is add hot water and some steamed oat milk in order to get your day started right.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray So I Can Spritz Away Bad Vibes

via: Amazon

It’s summer, it’s hot, and you have zero time to refreeze your ice roller. (You have one too now, right?!) This facial spray with aloe, rose water, and herbs takes all but three seconds to spray all over your sweaty face. Suddenly, you’re not sweating: You’re glistening! Other scents include lavender and cucumber.

A Heta Hair Scalp Massager So I Can Skip The Salon

via: Amazon

Showertime is me time, and I like to make the most of it. This hair scalp massager makes me feel like I just went to a salon, without dropping major cash on a blowout. This nifty little tool promotes blood circulation, but most importantly, it just feels fantastic.

A Handheld Head Massager That Is Strictly For The Tingles

via: Amazon

I was gifted this for my birthday and was...confused. Fortunately, it turns out that this weird-looking device couldn’t be easier to use: Just gently move it up and down on your head (or better yet, get a buddy to do so!) to feel a sense of instant calm. Who cares if you look a little ridiculous with this spider thing on your head? The “ahhh" feeling is worth it — trust.

This Set Of 14 Sheet Masks Makes Bedtime Feel Like Spa Time

via: Amazon

I’ll often come to bed in one of these masks, which are so soothing, especially after a day of hiking in the sun on the weekend. Even my partner, who was initially reluctant given the horror movie aesthetic of the masks, has gotten in on the game. This set of 14 sheet masks could give you two weeks of soft, moisturized skin — and lots of sheet mask selfies, too.

This Multipack Of Lip Balms Gives You Zero Excuse For Chapped Lips

via: Amazon

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good, reliable lip balm. Burt’s Bees has been my go-to forever. If you’re like me and your lip balms tend to disappear into the bottom of your purse, never to be seen again, this multipack will keep you stocked for a low price.

This Tahitian Bean Sugar Scrub Smells Like Heaven, Not Cupcakes

via: Amazon

I love the smell of vanilla, but not that sugary, cupcake-y version of the scent too many companies pump into their body care products. Tree Hut’s sugar scrub has the perfect warm-but-not-overwhelming smell, and leaves your skin soft as ever.

This Waterpik Makes Flossing Actually Fun

via: Amazon

Okay, I know: Flossing might not be high on your list of “fun" self care routines. But it’s important! My dentist recommended I switch to a waterpik after a particularly terrible tooth infection, and as it turns out, I’m way more likely to stick to shooting a tiny stream of water into my mouth than I ever was with conventional floss. It’s pricey compared to a roll of floss, of course, but I promise it’s much more fun.

This Friendship Bracelet Kit Takes You Back To Childhood

via: Amazon

Weeks into coronavirus quarantine, I decided I needed a crafty hobby and remembered how much I enjoyed making friendship bracelets as a kid. I bought a huge pack of this embroidery floss and got to work on Chinese staircase and chevron stitches. Now, making bracelets is my favorite low-key activity to do while watching TV — it’s relaxing, and unlike painting, there’s almost zero mess to clean up when you’re done.

This Sleepwear Set Keeps You Cool & Comfy

via: Amazon

Los Angeles in the summer is no joke, and sometimes you don't want to bother with the AC. This lightweight sleep set is cozy yet won't have me waking up sweating in the middle of the night. Plus, the matching set is cute enough to wear to walk my dog in the morning without fear of neighbors' judgments.

Glow Stick Supergoop Sunscreen Protects You From The Sun Without Melting All Over Your Bag

via: Amazon

Supergoop makes incredible sunscreens, but there is a reason why I love the Glow Stick the most. It's portable (no mess in my bag!) and provides extra hydration to my parched summer skin. Even better? With an SPF of 50, I know I'm as protected as possible — though reapplying is still crucial.

This Makeup Brush Set From Tarte Will Turn You Into The Little Mermaid

via: Amazon

Look at this brush set, isn't it neat? If you loved Disney movies as a kid, you'll very much appreciate Tarte's line of makeup brushes, all of which are shaped like mermaid tails. The simple act of putting on makeup just got a lot more fun.

This Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser Makes Removing Makeup A Breeze

via: Amazon

According to many beauty blogs, Drunk Elephant is one of the best skincare brands you can buy, and as a fan of the line, Drunk Elephant's jelly cleanser is a favorite product. Scent-free and lightweight with no harsh chemicals, it removes every inch of makeup and grime from your face without stripping it of important oils. I feel clean and refreshed when I use it, but not squeaky clean — and that's the point!

This Book About Happiness Will Make Your Life A Little Happier

via: Amazon

I've been a fan of Gretchen Rubin's podcast "Happier With Gretchen Rubin" for years now, and I love this book about her trying out different theories as to what makes people, well, happier. Obviously, not everything Gretchen tries worked for her, nor will it work for everyone — but if you're seeking some inner calm, this book is well worth a read.

This Adult Coloring Book Is So Soothing, Without All The Artsy Mess

via: Amazon

After many failed watercolor attempts, I had to face the fact that a visual artist, I am not. Still, the act of actually doing the art is so soothing, I had to give something else a try. Adult coloring books are a lot less messy than paint, but still offer me a nice creative outlet.

This Sound Machine Makes It So You Can Finally Sleep, Well, Soundly

via: Amazon

My partner will attest: I am a nightmare when I don't get a solid seven hours of sleep, minimum. Unfortunately, our neighbors don't always keep to the same waking hours as we do, which can lead to some bumps in the night that disrupt said sleep. This white noise machine takes the edge off unwanted sounds, and can make you feel like you're in the middle of a rainstorm — a rare thing in my city of Los Angeles!

This Himalayan Salt Lamp Turns Your Room Into A Yoga Studio

via: Amazon

Some claim that Himalayan salt lamps purify the air. I'm not so sure about the science behind that, but it doesn't matter — this lamp brings me pure joy with its soft amber glow and cool, earthy aesthetic.

This Stress Relief Essential Oil Roller Takes Self Care On The Go

via: Amazon

It's lovely to breathe in eucalyptus in a steamy shower...but if I'm in line at the DMV, I need some calm right the heck now. That's where this roller, which is diluted with coconut oil, comes in. A few swipes on my wrists and I have a scent that brings me almost instant calm.

This Meditation Cushion So You Can Get Your Practice On Comfortably

via: Amazon

How people can meditate cross-legged on a hardwood floor, I have no idea. This meditation cushion protects my butt from falling asleep, which, inevitably, will be the only thing I think of when I'm trying not to think at all.

This Mini Cake Pop Maker Makes Quick Desserts A Breeze

via: Amazon

A girl cannot survive on skincare routines and meditation practices alone. Sometimes the best thing to keep calm is to...make cake pops! I break out this mini cake pop maker whenever I need something quick and easy, but still slightly fancier than, say, eating cookie dough straight from the tub. We've all been there, right?

This Airfryer Makes Eating Your Vegetables Easy & Fun

via: Amazon

I'll pick cake pops over cauliflower any day...unless the cauliflower is "fried" in this easy device. With only a spoonful of oil, this air fryer makes veggies taste delicious — and way worse for you than they actually are! My favorite thing to do in this air fryer is buffalo cauliflower, but it's also great for easy sweet potato fries and Brussel sprouts.

This Cookbook From Chrissy Teigen Will Satisfy All Your Cravings

via: Amazon

Chrissy Teigen isn't a professional chef. I am also not a professional chef. Much like Chrissy Teigen, I also love recipes that are simple, delicious, and don't take an entire day to throw together. Her mac n' cheese balls are essential for self-care! Feel free to eat them in the bathtub if you must.

Natural Bath Bombs Because You're Fancy & Deserve A Long, Hot Bath

via: Amazon

Bath bombs are excellent for many things: Softer post-bath skin, creating a fun color in your tub, and also crafting a perfect Instagram boomerang. These colorful bath bombs smell amazing, are super affordable, and won't leave you covered in a weird chalky coating.

A Natural Salve For When You Need To Soothe Overwashed Hands

via: Amazon

My hands don't care if it's the dead of winter in New York or the middle of summer in L.A.: They're pretty much always chapped. Yes, hand moisturizer and body lotion help, but it's this Burt's Bees salve that really saves the day. It's easy to travel with thanks to the fact that it comes in a convenient tin, which is worlds away from the moisturizer that recently exploded all over my new purse.

Fairy Lights To Turn Your Room Into An Oasis

via: Amazon

What is it about these twinkly lights that give my room an almost hotel-like vibe? I don't know, but whenever I turn these fairy lights on, it's like I'm transported into a room straight off my Pinterest board. It doesn't even matter if I have piles of laundry to put away — I'm fancy now.

An Acupressure Mat and Pillow Set That Hurts So Good

via: Amazon

Shavasana is my favorite yoga pose, but don’t expect the same kind of “ahhh" from laying on this acupressure mat. In fact, it’s more like lying on a bed of plastic needles. Before you click through and call me crazy, know that it’s not nearly as painful as it sounds — in fact, laying on this mat allegedly promotes blood circulation and stimulates nerves. Sure, there’s science behind acupressure, but speaking from personal experience alone: Just 10 minutes on this mat makes me feel like I just walked out of a great massage. It even comes with a pillow!
