17 Ways To Track Your Body Composition, Even When You’re Sleeping

My name is Serena James and I’m one of those people who love to track my vitals – how many hours I sleep, how many miles I walk, and how many calories I eat each day. Does that make me sound weird or eccentric? I assume a lot of other people do this too, hence why there are so many Fit Bits and other wearable devices on the market.  But how do you choose which one is the best fit for your lifestyle?

I’ve either bought, used, or trialed a huge number of wearable fitness trackers via Amazon and have compiled a list of the devices I have found most user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Whether you wear it around your wrist, finger, chest, or neck, I’ve tried it… so here are my favorite wearable trackers that are available on Amazon.

When choosing which smartwatch or fitness device is the best for your lifestyle, I always recommend weighing up its functionality as well as the look and feel that you will be most comfortable wearing daily. The personalized 3D model of my body composition with the Amazon Halo seemed to give me the most accurate reading and modern way of visualizing my progress.

Depending on your health and fitness priorities, Amazon has the largest range of wearable fitness trackers that I’ve found. I always look at the star ratings, customer feedback, and Amazon’s best-seller lists before I buy an item. These are the best of the best.

This Amazon Halo Tracks Your Vitals In 3D

The Amazon Halo is a new wearable fitness device that not only tracks your vitals but also your body fat composition and even includes a personalized 3D model. I’ve already given it a five-star review on Amazon because it gave me such a precise reading and also helps me sleep deeper (and track my sleep) while offering guided meditations and sleep sounds. I am a huge fan of the Halo for its clinically proven body fat reader, which is definitely more accurate than a BMI reading or any other smartwatch that I’ve tried. I especially find this useful when I’m trying to lose a few pounds after the holidays or to keep my diet in check because I have a history of high cholesterol.  I now combine this device’s body fat calculations alongside regular cholesterol tests.  My personal trainer was also impressed and started using this for his own fitness goals.

The Fitbit Versa Lite Edition Smartwatch Lasts For Days Without Re-Charging

This smartwatch tracks your heart rate, sleep stages, and all-day activity all while maintaining a four-plus day battery life. I prefer the design of the Amazon Halo, but this is also a great go-to smartwatch with impressive battery life. It’s a great option for people with busy lives who don’t have time to keep recharging their devices each day - which definitely includes myself. It also connects to Smartphone GPS to give real-time pace and distance for those serious runners out there and of course still links your texts, calendar, and notification when your phone is nearby. I’m more of a walker myself, but I still liked using it to track my pace and distance.

This Fitbit Inspire HR Heart Rate And Fitness Tracker Is Sleek Enough To Wear With A Cocktail Dress

I originally bought this fitbit because of its elegant look, so I could wear it out at night and still track my fitness – especially if I go out dancing. I ended up surprised by its overall functionality, which gave me deeper insights into my vitals than expected. The battery also lasts up to five days and even when it does need charging, it goes from 0 to 100% in 2 hours, which makes it great for traveling.

The Fitbit Versa 2 Health and Fitness Smartwatch Is Great For Swimming

I was initially drawn to this smartwatch because of its gorgeous Petal/Copper Rose color scheme, while I was on the hunt for something to swim in. Seeing as it is water-resistant and can also control my Spotify app and download Pandora stations, I enlisted this watch as my go-to swim motivation. It also tracks heart-rate, sleep stages, and uses Alexa just like other smart devices. I love working out to the right playlist as much as the next girl, even when I’m monitoring my swimming stroke. If the color isn’t your style, it’s also available in Bordeaux/Copper Rose.

This Fitbit Charge 4 Special Edition Doubles As A Payment Method

I got hooked on this Fitbit during a 90-day free trial because I loved its goal-based exercise modes. I also linked up my bank account to make purchases with Fitbit Pay, which is handy when you’re working out and want to buy a bottle of water or snack afterward and are not carrying your wallet. In fact, I like to head out for my workout with as little on me as possible – so the more functions my Fitbit can provide, the better.

The MyZone Physical Activity Belt Is Comfy And Versatile For Any Workout

I found this adjustable wearable activity belt comfortable to wear because I can change the fitting as and when needed. The adjustability is essential because let’s face it, we are not always the same size every day of the month. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to set it up the first time you use it, but once you do set it up and take it to the gym, you won’t regret your decision to wear it. The belt helps to track different types of workouts, which is great for me because one day I’m doing Vinyasa flow and the next I might be on a hike or at the gym.

The Wellue Heart Rate Monitor Chest Strap Keeps Me At A Safe Pace

This chest strap is more comfortable than it sounds and is a great monitor for outdoor fitness. It includes Bluetooth, a chest heart rate sensor, and a heart rate alarm to trace your vitals for 24 hours. To keep your heart rate in check, it vibrates every 10 seconds when you reach the ideal target and vibrates every 2 seconds if your heart rate goes dangerously high. If this is something you’ve ever needed to monitor, it’s a great tracker to keep you safe while working out.

These FORM Smart Swim Goggles Make Swimming Feel High-Tech

I first tried these smart goggles because they looked like something out of a James Bond movie. But they ended up being hugely functional, rather than just a gimmick. Swimming can be one of the hardest workouts to track when you’re in the zone underwater, but these goggles show your metrics while swimming. The swimming mode records your stroke rate/count, distance, calories, heart rate, and much more. They work best if you are in a pool of at least 15 meters (16.5 yards) or open water.

This Bellabeat Leaf Urban Smart Jewelry Health Tracker Is The Ultimate Fitness Accessory

When I want to accessorize while also tracking my health, I slip on this piece of smart jewelry. Whenever I wear it, I always get compliments on the design and people seem to have no idea that it’s actually functional. It tracks my steps, distance, calories burned, sleep patterns, menstrual cycle, and even my stress levels – by synching to either iOS or Android. The best bit is that the coin cell battery lasts for around 6 months, so I never need to re-charge it regularly.

This Posture Corrector Is Like Being In An All-Day Yoga Class

I’m constantly doing upper back exercises to improve my posture, but one device I’ve truly found beneficial is this Posture Corrector. I found it on Amazon through the bestseller list and the adjustable upper back brace makes it comfortable to wear as well as functional. It has really supported not just my back, but also my neck and shoulders. It’s not a smart device, but it is a wearable device that has truly improved my form. You can’t go wrong with this simple wearable to improve your posture, no matter what age group you fit into.

This Wellue O2 Ring Wearable Sleep Monitor Is An Efficient Overnight Companion

Wearables come in all shapes and sizes, so when I wanted to try something a bit left-field I trialed this sleep monitor ring. Even though it looks like a chunky design, it’s quite comfortable to wear overnight and provides a graphic sleep report as well as trends on health data. It’s light, durable, and runs automatically for up to 16 hours. If you’re interested in trying out a ring tracker, this one is the one to choose.

This Wellue Oxylink Wireless Blood Oxygen Monitor Is A Useful O2 Level Monitor Ring Device

Another ring-device from Wellue focuses on blood oxygen levels, which is great if you’re monitoring your overall health. I tried this device and found it super useful to monitor my heart rate and O2 levels. When oxygen levels fall below the pre-set threshold, you are sent a reminder that you’re operating at a low-oxygen status. I am prone to feeling faint and dizzy at times because of my low blood pressure, so this device’s graphic report of my blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, and body motion is really useful to keep track of it all.

This Fitbit Inspire Accessory Clip Is Handy And Cheap

I stumbled across this accessory clip because it was ranked as Amazon’s Choice for fitbit clip-ons. The price tag was fairly cheap so I tried it out and found it a useful tool to just clip onto my pocket or bra and head out. You’ve just got to remember to set your device to ‘On Clip’ mode when you wear it as a clip and change the setting to ‘On Wrist’ mode if you wear it around your wrist. The tracker comes separately, so this is only a handy accessory to give you options on where to wear your preferred fitness tracker.

This Scosche Rhythm + Heart Rate Monitor Armband Is A Great Option For Everyone

I bought this heart rate monitor armband for my boyfriend, but I’ve been borrowing it from time to time to use it for myself. I found it pretty comfortable to walk or swim in (it can be submerged underwater up to 1 meter) and gave me a good reading while working out. My boyfriend has synched it up to his MapMyFitness app and wears it every time he goes out running and likes to compare his heart rate readings as his fitness improves.

This iGANK Simple Walking Pedometer Lasts A Year Without Recharging

When I have a day off from working out, I just use this very simple pedometer. There are no apps or Bluetooth required, I just hook it to my belt or throw it in my pocket to track my steps. Even on my days off, I like to keep track of my steps and this is one of the quickest and easiest ways to do it. The battery lasts up to a year, so I keep it on my bedside table and use it once a week.

The OZO Fitness Pedometer Is A Great Stocking Stuffer

I bought a bunch of these pedometers for family and friends for the upcoming holidays because they are so affordable and easy to attach to house keys. I thought the lanyard design was a great gift idea for men, women, and kids. I’ve noticed that during the current global pandemic, everyone around me has been trying to keep a better radar on their own health.

This Smartwatch with Wireless Earbuds Has Awesome Sound Quality

I was drawn to this watch because of its wireless Bluetooth earbuds – so it’s a fitness tracker but it also has a built-in earphones charger case in the watch. It tracks the same range of vitals as other smartwatches, such as your heart rate, calories, distance, and sleep, but also has high-quality audio streaming. This definitely comes in handy, but I must say that out of all the smartwatches I’ve tried, the Amazon Halo is still my top pick.
